It's 2024, summer is nearly here and the Great Slave Sailing Club is offering Sailing Camps again!
Two week half-day Wetfeet Sailing Camps for 5-8 year old children in Optimist dinghies and 1 week CANSail 1 & 2 camps for youth aged 8-15 in Topper dinghies.
Indoor facilities will be provided for exclusive use of the sailing camps for lessons, warmth and eating lunch. Limited supply of children's wetsuits for loan.
Our priorities are safety and fun, therefore on the water time is dependent on wind and weather conditions, and is at the discretion of the instructor.
We strive to make our courses fun, educational and great value for money when compared with other summer programs.

What Students Should Bring.....
Lifejacket/PFD if you have your own with your name clearly marked. We do supply PFDs if you don't have one.
soft-soled, non-marking, closed toe water shoes
a wetsuit is strongly advised especially for children
We can supply a shorty wet suit if you contact us before hand and request one (for children aged 5-12) Limited supply, first come first served. Wetsuit is for use at the sailing club only
Otherwise bring appropriate clothing for the weather: Bathing suit, foul weather gear (windproof jacket, pants), towel, etc
extra set of dry clothes and foot wear for on land
hat & sunglasses with string
sunscreen
drinking water & snacks
full day programs - Peanut-free lunch, water bottles (preferably insulated to keep water cold and fresh)
Please store all personal items in a bag, keep your lunch in an insulated bag, and label everything, including your PFD if you have one. All personal belongings are stored in the clubhouse. The Sailing School cannot ensure the safety of any valuables.
** "shorty" wetsuits can provide warmth and a bit of padding. They can be purchased in Yellowknife at Canadian Tire or Overlander Sports, or online through Canadian water sports companies such as M.E.C. and Shuswap Ski & Board.
Classes take place at the Great Slave Sailing Club, adjacent to the Giant Mine Boat Launch on the old Highway 4 past the Ski Club.
Please note that refunds will be issued up to 1 week before the start of a course, but less 10% to cover transaction fees on both payments and refunds
For sailors aged 8 to 15.
CANSail 1 may be completed after taking Opti Wet-Feet or with no sailing experience. This class is taught to using the CANSail curriculum in two person Topper sailing dinghies and single handed Optimist dinghies, and covers basic sailing skills. CANSail 2 picks up where CANSail 1 finishes. CANSail levels are awarded based on skills demonstrated to the Instructor and not by classes attended.
Sailors who have previously completed the Optimist courses successfully but are not yet 8 years old may be considered on a case by case basis.
Classes run from 8:30 to 4:30 Monday to Friday at the Great Slave Sailing Club, adjacent to the Giant Mine Boat Launch. Drop off after 8.15, pick up by 4.45.

This course is taught in two person Topper sailing dinghies and covers basic sailing skills and terminology.

This course runs Tuesday and Thursday 6-9pm and Saturday 1-4pm for 2 weeks
Race Team is for youth who would like to train for sailing competitions. It is by invitation only. If you have been invited, register on the wait list and you will be added to the class.

This is not a beginner course. It is for adults who have taken the Learn to Sail class, or for those with previous dinghy sailing experience, who would like to further develop their dinghy sailing skills. A basic understanding of sailing principles and terminology is required. This class is taught to using the CANSail curriculum in Topper sailing dinghies.
